Netball News

We have had two matches this week, read on for the details!

Tuesday
On Tuesday afternoon Clockhouse welcomed Mawney for the first league game of 2016. Clockhouse currently sit top of the league undefeated, whilst the visitors were yet to play.

Despite a sluggish start Clockhouse dominated territory and at the end of the first period led 5 - 0 thanks to 3 goals from Gracie-May H and 2 from captain Daisie S-E. Any chances created from Mawney were quickly nullified by Caitlin My and Victoria R.

Another 5 goals came in the 2nd period with Clockhouse now in full flow. The link up play between Summer S and Caitlin M to feed the shooters was flawless. Daisie S-E took her total for the day to 3 and Gracie-May H scoring an impressive 7 goals.

With the team mixed up and some fresh faces Clockhouse ensured a win to keep us top of the league, with Caitlin M scoring 3 times. Credit must also go to Verity A-G and Charlie T who fitted nicely into our defensive structure to most importantly keep the opposition to a nil.

Final Score Clockhouse 13 - 0 Mawney.

Wednesday
In recent years Clockhouse have build a good sporting partnership with St. Peters from the South Weald.

This would be the first time the two schools have played each other at netball, but if the evenly contested tag rugby matches have been anything to go by it was going to be a great contest.

Despite wet, slippery conditions the match lived up to expectations, an end to end contest where the undefeated Clockhouse team were truly tested from start to finish.

The game started at high speed with both teams flowing from end to end. St Peters opened the scoring and Clockhouse replied straight back through in form Goal Shooter Gracie-May H. The two schools traded scores with Gracie scoring her 2nd and Daisie S-E adding to the score to make the game tied with 3 goals each at the end of the first quarter.

The intensity continued into the 2nd quarter with both teams looking strong defensively. Both teams battled hard and were rewarded with two goals a piece. Both Daisie and Gracie adding a goal each.

Ironically an amazing defensive effort from Shannon I, Niamh S, and Charlie T was the steps to success for Clockhouse to establish a lead in the third quarter. Three unanswered goals and some determined defending put Clockhouse in a good position going into the final quarter.

After a game played at a frantic pace both teams began to tire and the Clockhouse defence stood strong, leading from the front with Caitlin M and Summer S working non-stop from one end of the court to the other resulting in only conceding once whilst Clockhouse had the final say equaling their rivals goal in the final quarter of the game to earn a hard earned win.

Mr Yarrow said after the game 'it is always nice to play a great game with a school from outside the borough. All our sporting encounters with St. Peters have been breathless games played in great spirit and this one was a classic! The netball team have been in cruise control in the league this year so far, but it was great to see tonight that when we are up against it we can perform to that level to remain undefeated this year. It's great to see that despite having some brilliant shooters that our defence was a real credit to the team tonight. Thank you to Pam Peart and the parents for their help and as always thanks to St. Peters. I personally look forward to some more amazing encounters later this year!'

Final Score: St. Peters 6 - 9 Clockhouse

Well done Clockhouse!
