Teachers have been busy making appointments for everyone, so if, as yet, you do not have an appointment please contact your child's class teacher on Monday to make arrangements for a meeting. There will be a questionnaire for parents to complete whilst you are waiting. Even the adults have to learn!
Whilst the children were enjoying the first day on their holiday the staff, joined by some of the Governors, were hard at work.
We spent the majority of the day looking at our Behaviour Policy and making some exciting changes which we will be launching with the children on their return to school and then sharing with you all.

Girls follow in boys footsteps with outstanding first victory!
In some of the weirdest weather conditions Clockhouse girls finally got the opportunity to play their first game tonight at Pinewoods.
The girls controlled the game territorially and with 5 minutes gone new captain Sophie L powered home with a strike from the edge of the area.
With roughly 8 minutes to play in the half the Year 5 girls Ruby N and Lily S-E were introduced to the game. The girls played confidently making good runs but the highlight was the passing game that seemed to bamboozle Pinewoods. Ruby N finishing off a nice team move to double the Clockhouse advantage before half time.
Pinewoods came out more physical in the 2nd half but the game remained in the greatest of spirits with all the girls from both sides enjoying their opportunities. Both sides grew in confidence as the game went on but it was Ruby N with her 2nd goal of the afternoon that sealed the victory. The cherry on the cake for Clockhouse came when Emily G hit a powerful shot that the goalkeeper struggled to deal with and Clockhouse went four goal to the good.
Pinewoods and Clockhouse both finished the game smiling after a fun game with the game really opening up in the last 5 minutes.
FINAL SCORE: PINEWOODS 0 - 4 CLOCKHOUSE
SQUAD: Kayleigh M, Rameen S, Grace D, Emily G, Beth C, Sophie L (c), Jodie S, Lily-Jo G, Ruby N, Lily S-E
SCORERS: Sophie L, Ruby N x 2 and Emily G
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Ruby N
Mixed fortunes with one win and one defeat in first rugby event of the season.
On Friday night Clockhouse welcomed St Peter's of Brentwood for two tag rugby fixtures. Both games were played at a healthy pace and highlighted areas of strength and for improvement.
In the first game Clockhouse Dark Blues recorded an 8 - 6 victory. Player of the Match was Jake L.
In the next game Clockhouse Royal Blues were defeated by a defensively well drilled St Peter's team 11 - 7. Player of the Match was given to Sophie L.
Mr Yarrow said 'I'd like to thank St Peter's for travelling from Brentwood. Its always good to find healthy competition from outside the borough.
The Dark Blues showed some great footwork and cover tagging to come away with a battling victory. The Royal Blues got stronger as the game went on and when they picked up the speed and didn't allow St Peter's to organise defensively they made a good game of it. Sadly the damage was done in the first half.
Thank you to our two referees from Upminster Rugby Club we could not have done it without you!'
In form Boys Footballers keep winning run going!
Last week Clockhouse visited St Mary's for a boys football. The match was a good warm up for the league matches coming up as Clockhouse will face St Mary's in the league too.
The boys started where they left off against Crowlands and took an early lead with a James O goal. The pressure built up throughout the half with Clockhouse going in at half time 3 - 0 up. Max N scoring a tap in following a nice assist from Kaylan B and Charlie M scoring a perfectly curled free kick.
St Mary's came out for the second half stronger having made a few changes. The game became more of a struggle with Clockhouse guilty of trying to do too much with the ball and St Mary's becoming a lot more physical in the tackle. St Mary's got themselves back in the running with a goal before Clockhouse finished the game off with 2 more goals following some neat passing. Charlie M and James O both getting their brace.
The boys are next in action Tuesday at the league tournament on Tuesday where they will meet St Mary's again along with Parklands and Engayne.
FINAL SCORE: ST MARY'S 1 - 5 CLOCKHOUSE
SQUAD: Charlie B, Alfie P (c), Bobby I, James O, Max N, Bobby L, Kaylan B, Charlie M, Hayden M, Morgan N, & John O
SCORERS: James O x 2, Max N, & Charlie M x 2
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Charlie M
Clockhouse take part in first ever Havering Orienteering Event at Stubbers.
Clockhouse Primary School selected 6 pairs of children from Year 6 to attend the first ever Havering Orienteering Event at Stubbers.
On a difficult course the children displayed good map reading skills, teamwork and navigation skills.
Children navigated the course in times ranging from 28 minutes up to an hour and 6 minutes. Our fastest pair was Tom L and Charlie G who finished 6th fastest pair overall.
Mr Yarrow said 'It was great to have children out competing in a different type of challenge environment not just testing sporting ability but also engaging teamwork and route planning skills. Some children shone and others worked outside their comfort zones and learned new skills. For me the biggest result was that the children that took part had fun and have also asked if they can organise an inter-school orienteering event at Clockhouse later in the year. Well done to all who took part and thank you to all parents who transported children.'
CLOCKHOUSE PAIRS:
Tom L and Charlie G
Hannah D and Beth C
Jesse M and Kaylan B
Darci L and Jasmine B
Elli P and Giulia N
Charlie W and Filip

Our new reading challenges are here!
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we lauched our new approach to our at home reading challenges. As you will remember from last year, children were awarded a reading star for reading 3 times a week. These reading stars were added together at the end of the term and the child or children with the most stars were awarded a prize during a celebration assembly. After listening to the advice of children, staff and parents we have decided to have different challenges based on the key stage that they are in.
Key Stage One (Year 1 and 2)
Children will be taking part in the ‘reading jewels challenge’. This challenge consists of children receiving a certificate and sticker for reading a certain amount of books. They will work their way up the jewel ladder whilst exploring different genres and enjoying good quality texts. In the children’s reading diaries they will have a ‘jewel sheet’ so that they can colour in a jewel once they have finished the book. In order for a child to be awarded a jewel, a parent or adult must write in the child’s reading diary and sign to say they have finished their book.
The Jewel Ladder - stages and prizes
BRONZE – 15 books read – Given by the Class Teacher
SILVER – 30 books read – Given by the Year Group Leader
GOLD – 50 books read – Given by the KS1 Phase Leader
PLATINUM – 75 books read – Given by the Deputy Head
DIAMOND – 100 books read – Given by the Head Teacher
Lower Key Stage Two (Year 3 and 4)
Children will be taking part in the ‘around the world reading challenge’. All children will receive a reading passport in their reading diaries. For every book read that the child can confidently talk about and answer questions about them they will be awarded with 500 reading miles. They collect these reading miles in their special reading passport on their very own reading world tour - a whopping 33,000 miles. At key checkpoints around the world, children will receive a certificate and prize.
Around the World reading challenge prizes
New York – Certificate and sticker
Rio de Janiro – Certificate and small prize .e.g. pencil, rubber
Nairobi – Certificate and their choice of book
Sydney – Certificate and a medal.
In order for a child to be awarded 500 reading miles, a parent or adult must write in the child’s reading diary and sign to say they have finished their book.
Upper Key Stage Two (Year 5 and 6)
At Clockhouse we will be officially opening a ‘Clockhouse Costa Coffee Club’. All children in Year 5 and 6 will receive their own Clockhouse Costa Coffee loyalty card. Once they have read one book and are able to confidently talk about the book and answer questions about it they will receive a stamp on their loyalty card. When a child has filled their loyalty card they will be invited to the monthly ‘Clockhouse Costa morning’ where they will be able to have either a hot drink (coffee, tea, hot chocolate) or a cold drink (milkshake, squash, smoothie) and will be provided with a small snack.
In order for a child to be awarded a stamp, a parent or adult must write in the child’s reading diary and sign to say they have finished their book.
Whole School
As well as the children taking part in their own Key Stage reading challenge, the children also have the opportunity to take part in a whole school reading initiative. Once your child has read a book that they have really enjoyed, we would like them to fill out a book review that will be provided by the class teacher. This book review will then be added to a prize draw and at the end of each term 3 will be picked out to win a prize. The idea is the more book reviews your child completes the more opportunities they have of winning a prize.
Thank you again with your support in developing your child’s reading at home and continuing to create a love for reading.
Kind regards,
Miss Ettridge
