Day 4 of the Clockhouse Family

It is hard to believe that it is the end of Week 1, and what a week it has been! Once again as a community we have pulled together in a spectacular style and again shown what really is possible when faced with adversity. Everyone has certainly played their part and I hope you all agree, in the main, we have been very successful!
 
I am very proud to tell you that we have had a 94% uptake on Zoom sessions and very similar in Google Classroom - this is absolutely phenomenal and is testimony to the hard work of the staff and the importance that you are all placing on the education of your child during this time. I wonder if we can push it up to 95% next week? I meant every word I said in the message last night, this is hard but we are in it for as long as is necessary. Keep going and please do not stress yourselves out. We are here to help you in any way that we can. 
 
Well done to Team Hawaii who have taken the new regime in their stride as well as zooming with the teachers and the children at home. It still amazes me that we are in this position but that we are also able to do this and offer this provision. Please be aware that some of our Hawaii bubbles are getting very full. We do ask that you think carefully before requesting this provision and only do so if you do really need it. The Government are clear that if you can stay at home you should, this goes for children as well. We also have to balance the safety aspect in school for Team Hawaii and of course the staff who are supporting them. Thank you in advance for your support with this. 
 
As I am sure you will agree the staff have done a phenomenal job this week in more ways than one! I am sure like us you are glad that it is Friday. We all (including yourselves) need a little break at the weekend - this is definitely a marathon not a sprint! Please do have a rest so that you are ready, refreshed and ready to go again on Monday. I will be in touch with the normal Sunday reminders.

All that leaves me to say is, thank you for your continued support and kind words at what is such a difficult time for us all and from all at Clockhouse Primary School have a great weekend at home! A big round of applause and thank you for our wonderful community.

Day 3 of the Clockhouse Family

Good evening Clockhouse
 
I do hope that you are looking after yourselves and are keeping yourselves safe. 
 
I have to say all the adults from school could not be more proud of you all. The number of children joining Zoom sessions and sending work through has been phenomenal! You have all adapted so, so quickly and so, so well under such difficult and demanding circumstances. It really does show how much the children and you all live our 4th 'secret R' - Resilience! Team Hawaii have had another good day in school and have also adapted well to the changes to the way school is at the moment. We are so, so proud of this special and unique group of children also.
 
As you already know, we have a number of people in our community who have been or are poorly as well as families being affected by Covid in so many different ways since the pandemic began in March. Please remember that we continue to be here for you all should you need us, even if it is just to offer a listening ear. 
 
Please know that we understand that each family context is different and that we understand you are all doing the very best you can. We understand each families circumstances are different and unique and only you as a family know what you can do. Our Remote Learning offer is there for you all and we do ask that you do all you can but please do not it let it upset you or cause unnecessary stress at what is already such a difficult time. We understand that you are parents / carers and not your child's teacher and therefore we do not expect you to be able to support your children in the way we would and progress their learning at the pace we would if they were in school. If this were the case and it were that easy,  there would be no school, no teachers and we would all be out of a job! We understand the pressures you are under with a number of children of all ages at home, trying to work from home, the list could go on and on. What I am saying is all we ask is that you try your best, engage with us and do all you can but please do not get upset, worry and stress yourselves out. At Clockhouse we are lucky to have a very dedicated staff team who only want the best for the children and who will do all they can now but also when the schools reopen. It will then be our job to help the children progress and learn from where they are. Please look after yourselves and your family and keep yourselves safe. None of us wanted this but it is a necessity and together I know, as the great Clockhouse community we are, we will get there! 
 
I know many of you would like your children in school, so would I! But I do have a duty to the whole school community and have to keep the school as safe as possible, this is why we only have a small number of children in school. Thank you to our community for taking this so seriously and being totally respectful and only requesting a place in school if it is absolutely necessary.
 
We are already looking forward to more Zooming tomorrow and welcoming Team Hawaii into school. Please look out for Achievement Assembly where we will be recognising a small number of the many heroes we have at Clockhouse as well as Hot Chocolate with the Head.

Day 2 of the Clockhouse Family

Good evening Clockhouse
 
I hope you are all staying safe and looking after yourselves. The weather certainly makes this whole time harder and different to the last lockdown. I am sure you join me in sending get well wishes to those in our community who are currently poorly.
 
The staff who are remote teaching have let me know how impressed they have been with all your work at home and the engagement with Zoom lessons. In some classes we have had as many as 27 out of a possible 29 getting onto the live learning on Zoom. If you are having difficulties accessing this, please do let us know and we will help you. It is not only important for the children's learning but also for their interaction with their teacher and each other. Who will be the first class to have everyone on a Zoom lesson - the competition is on! 
 
In school, it has been lovely to welcome Team Hawaii into school. Thank you to you all for being so respectful of the arrangements we have in place and I am pleased to say that we had no one arrive who was not on the list! My crazy organisation does pay off at times! It was truly outstanding to see the Zoom sessions come to life. Who would have thought it even possible to have teachers and children at home and at school and them be able to all come together to teach and learn. I had the privilege of walking round the school today and seeing it all in action - it felt so very proud or our staff, parents, children in fact of our whole school. Thank you for helping us make this happen!
 
The staff are continuing to work hard to answer your questions so please bear with us, but please do remember that we are here for you all. Should you need to contact us by phone, the school phone is manned from 7.45am to 4pm, please use option 3 or 5 when calling. 
 
Keep going team Clockhouse, you are doing a fantastic job in such difficult circumstances.

Day 1 of the Clockhouse Family

Good evening Clockhouse
 
I hope you are all doing well. Sorry for the late update but it has been a rather busy day! I did rather hope that I would not be in a position to start these daily updates again but here I am! 
 
A huge well done to all those who made in onto Zoom today and thank you for your very positive feedback. I know it is not ideal but it was so lovely for the staff to connect with you and for the children to connect with each other. I know the staff are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow! Well done also for engaging in Google Classroom and Dojo. Your amazing efforts and those of the children have not gone unnoticed at this difficult time. It is so impressive to see so many of you trying to support your children and the school. Keep going and thank you! 
 
The staff are working extensively to answer any questions that are coming through and at times the Dojo has gone slightly crazy. Please excuse us if we are a little slow but as you can appreciate there are an incredible number of messages. It would be remiss of me at this point, not to recognise the incredible efforts that the staff have gone to in order for this to be up and running so efficiently and so quickly. I am sure you join with me in thanking them. We will get into the new routine and things will settle down.
 
Whilst learning is very different to the last Lockdown as you can see and as I explained in my virtual newsletter this morning, we are still going to be setting some fun challenges so watch this space and are currently thinking of things to do to entertain you, make this hard time a bit easier, give you something to make you all smile and make this a memorable and positive time (as much as it can be).
 
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Team Hawaii tomorrow and will be ready and waiting for you all at 8.45. Please do not arrive if your place has not been confirmed. For the rest of you, the staff look forward to seeing you on Zoom bright and early.

Weekly reminders for the week beginning 4th January 2020

Happy New Year everyone!

Well I hope that, whilst it was a different holiday and festive period, you all made the best of it and had a fantastic Christmas. I also hope that 2021 has got off to the best start possible for you all under the circumstances! On behalf of all the staff a huge thank you for all the lovely messages, cards and gifts we received prior to the Christmas break and all you support and understanding at such a difficult time.

As I am sure you are aware the new term starts tomorrow and whilst it is not the start we would have wanted, I know together we will make the best of it and get through it together. Tomorrow (Monday) will continue to be an inset day and staff will be working from home. If you need us please contact us via Class Dojo. Many of you have already spoken to teachers or will do so over the coming days. Remote Learning starts on Tuesday. Please be aware that unlike the last lockdown, this time there are very clear expectations on schools that learning must continue and progress. We obviously cannot do this without your support and will work with you to do all that we can. Please do let us know if you need anything. 

Team Hawaii will be back in action on Wednesday and it is only these children, whose parents have had direct contact with me, who will be in school.

Should you need to come onto school site, please be aware that the rules and expectations that were in place prior to the holiday remain. Please do ensure that you keep your physical distance and that you wear masks when on school site unless you are exempt. If your children are in Hawaii, please do ensure that they are not sent into school if they themselves have symptoms of Covid or if a member of the household does. If you do not have a child in school, please do let us know if your child is unwell or a member of the household, we do still care about you all obviously and are all still part of the same community. 

As previously, there are a few things that you need to know:

• There will be a small number of school staff in school everyday (from Tuesday).
• The best way to contact teachers / school staff is messaging via Class Dojo, they will be online throughout the day and will get back to you as soon as they can. Class Teachers will be at home teaching remotely via Zoom at the times already given out. Links to the Zoom sessions will be sent by individual teachers.
• The school phones will only be manned between 7.45am and 3.45pm. Please do not hesitant to call, even if it is only for a chat. If we cannot talk at that moment, someone will get back to you as soon as they can. Please only use option 3 and 5, as other lines will not be manned due to the reduced work force each day.
• We will be asking for confirmation from those critical workers who may need child care for next week. Please do keep in mind that the government are very clear that ‘you should only send your child to school if you have to, because your work is critical to the COVID-19 response. If you are able to keep your child at home, you should’.

Food Parcels for those eligible

Should your child be eligible for Free School Meals (this is not Universal Free School Meals for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) and you would like a weekly food parcel, please email office@clockhouse.havering.sch.uk 

Please give your child's name, class and the best number to contact you on. We ask that as far as possible, once they are available, you collect these from school but should you need them delivered we can make arrangements. If you are not sure if your child is eligible and wish to check please also email. If you have already received a message via Dojo, there is no need to email.

We all look forward to working with each and everyone of you in 2021 albeit a bit differently to begin with! I know the we are all looking forward to seeing you virtually or face to face this week which gives us all a little bit of normality. 

Whilst we do still anticipate disruption moving forward and do not know how long the current arrangements will remain, we will of course do all we can to support you and thank you for your support without which we cannot do what we are doing.

Here is hoping, that as we move through 2021, it is eventually easier and more settled year than 2020. We are sure whatever happens it will be another positive year for our school and we will get through it together. Here is to another successful year at Clockhouse Primary!

Golden Letters of Success Autumn 2020
