A new sport, but more sporting success as Clockhouse take New Age Kurling for a spin!

Clockhouse went to Drapers Academy for an afternoon of different sports that are you are unlikely to see too often.

Firstly, Year 4 children participated in New Age Kurling. This is a variation of the Winter Olympic sport of curling. Where the stones are on wheels rather than ice.

In the group stages Clockhouse had mixed fortunes beating Drapers Brookside 3-1 and Harold Wood 4-0.  Clockhouse also picked up a 2-2 draw with Upminster Juniors and a 3-1 defeat to a well drilled Elm Park team.

As a result of the results in the group stages Clockhouse made the final where they played against Mead. A tight contest was won narrowly 3-2 to the delight of the Clockhouse squad! WELL DONE!!!!

Secondly, Year 5 and 6 children represented the school in a Sitting Volleyball competition. Sitting Volleyball is a version of Volleyball played with a lower net and a softer ball whilst all participants are seated.

In the group stages Clockhouse started with a nail bitting 15-14 victory over Drapers Brookside. Once the children had a stronger tactical understanding of the game they were able to beat Ardleigh Green in a more comfortable nature, winning 15-3. The last group game was a close contest that was won by eventual winners Mead. Clocks going down 11-15.

The group results meant Clockhouse were in the bronze medal match against Benhurst. A back and forth contest was eventually won by Benhurst 10-15 meaning Team Clockhouse finished 4th overall.

Mr Yarrow reflected by saying 'Today has been fantasic. The reaction from all Clockhouse children and adults when we won the Kurling was incredible to see!

We gave a number of children an opportunity to make great memories and try new sports that we have never been a part of before.

Thank you to all the staff that supported the team with such enthusiasm and the parents that helped with transport. A final thank you to the children who stepped in last minute today to ensure we still had a squad! This is amazing Clockhouse spirit. I am proud of all the participants and congratulations to the Year 4 children who won a competition in a sport they have never tried before. It just goes to show the adaptability and tenacity of our children!'
