After being ranked as a gold standard school for P.E. by Your School Games since 2015. Clockhouse Primary School recently achieved the accolade of being the first Havering School to achieve the Platinum Mark!
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.
Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.
When an application is submitted to School Games, it is graded automatically against that year's criteria. This initially determines whether the application is likely to be at a bronze, silver, or gold level. The application is then either verified by that school's local School Games Organiser (SGO) for Havering.
Each School Games Mark application is divided into four sets of questions. They cover the following basic topics...
- Participation - how many young people at your school are being engaged in sporting activity?
- Competition - how many different sports are being played and how many competitions are being entered?
- Workforce - how many pupils are involved in leadership activities alongside taking part in competitions?
Those schools which consistently submit gold level applications will be given the opportunity to additionally apply for the platinum award.
As part of the Clockhouse application for platinum we had to show how we had identified opportunity for growth, challenge and aspiration for the children. We shared a video from our school website highlighting the hard work that goes into making P.E. at Clockhouse so special. Mr Yarrow commented on the outstanding achievement by saying 'This is a special day for P.E. & sport at Clockhouse! We have a pupil centred approach to all aspects of physical education and the platinum school games mark just goes to show how consistency and progression over time is vital to the profile of P.E. at the school. Personally I'd like to say a huge well done to all the pupils, former pupils, teachers and parent community who have played their part on the journey starting in 2012 with a bronze award! Fast forward 10 years and we are now the only current platinum primary school in Havering. This holds sentimental value to me as it shows hard work pays off and how far we have come on the road to creating a sporting legacy at Clockhouse Primary School!
