Netball team ruthless to reach Borough semi-final!

Last night Clockhouse welcomed Engayne Primary School for the eagerly anticipated Borough League Cup Quarter Final. Clockhouse had trained hard in previous weeks, and went out of the Borough to find some really challenging opponents in preparation for this stage of the cup.

After a slow opening quarter Clockhouse had a narrow 2 - 1 lead. Through a goal each for Gracie H and Lily S-E.

From then on Clockhouse stepped on the accelerator pedal and didn't look back. The speed of passing was fantastic, with the ever improving brother and sister combination of Callum & Sophie L linking up nicely to feed the shooters. Despite dominating territory and possession Clockhouse only managed to add one goal to their lead before half time.

With players like Kayleigh M working hard and running non-stop, fresh legs were introduced. Bobby B played out of position and totally dominated his opposite player ensuring that despite Engayne's hard work and never say die attitude, Clockhouse retained the upper hand in the cup tie.

Clockhouse went into the final quarter of the match leading 8 - 3. Despite the Clockhouse defence really stepping up to keep Engayne at bay Mr Yarrow asked the team to finish strongly.

Somehow the team found another gear and looked truly untouchable. Scoring a further six goals without reply.

After the game Mr Yarrow said 'This was our best performance of the year so far! The transition from defence to attack was so smooth and fast, at times it went too fast at other times it was impossible for the opposition to cope with, small tweaks and this could make a real difference in the latter stages of the competition. Engayne were not a weak school at all, but the team played so well that with that type of performance they could beat anyone. They are a credit to everything we strive for with sport at Clockhouse, the team should be very proud! We have trained hard and today our defence stood out. Paris K, Attiya R, Beth C, Kayleigh M, and the out of position Bobby B had answers to everything Engayne through at them. We have worked on some set plays that looked really useful and we still have more in the locker for the semi-final. Last year we lost in the final of the Borough League Cup, this year the calibre of opposition left in is even higher but if we play like we did today there is no reason we can not reach a final again, and who knows maybe even more'.

Thank you to all the supporters today, it was great to have so many friendly faces on the side line cheering the team on. Thanks also to co-coach Miss Ettridge who has worked hard with the side as of late and also to Sheila from Marshalls Netball Club for another fantastic game with the whistle.

We still have a few parts of our game I'd like to make even better, and there is still so much competition for places as I left some good players out today, but I can honestly say I have not stopped smiling following today's performance! Keep up the good work team!!

FINAL SCORE: Clockhouse 14 - 3 Engayne

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Bobby B

SQUAD: Beth C, Paris K, Kayleigh M, Callum L, Sophie L, Gracie H (c), Lily S-E, Attiya R, & Bobby B
