Clockhouse off to a winning start in 2016.

Clockhouse kicked off the 2016-17 sporting calendar tonight with a win in a boys football friendly against St Peters.

After a good trial session yesterday where we were forced to leave out some great players, Clockhouse knew that the hard work had already begun as competition for places was fierce.

The boys selected today did not disappoint, setting the trend for the game with some strong jinking runs from Paul S and Bobby L early on. After adapting to each others style of play it did not take Clockhouse long to take the lead. A neat through pass from Aydan F set school captain Callum L through, unfortunately for Callum his shot was parried but Bobby B was on hand to poach the first goal of the season with a left footed placed shot.

Clockhouse were unlucky not to have the lead doubled when the St Peters defence struggled with the footwork of Alfie P bringing him down for a free kick. Paul S took the free kick quickly and the ball found the back of the net off the woodwork. Sadly the free kick was taken too quickly and a retake was needed and the second attempt was not as effective the second time round.

St Peters were definitely the bigger more physical side and there tactic of lobbing balls into the area worked for them on the stroke of half time as a well placed cross from a corner found its way into the Clockhouse net leaving the half time score at 1 - 1.

Clockhouse came out in the second half firing with Charlie M, Alfie P, and Paul S all testing the solid St Peters keeper from range.

Clockhouse delt well with the frustration well and kept plugging away, Brandon M winning a throw deep in the St Peters half. From the resulting throw the ball went into the St Peters box where the ball was turned in by one of their own defenders.

The icing on the cake came when Callum L found the net after some neat passing from Paul S and Aydan F.

Credit must go to the two Clockhouse Goal Keeper's and the defenders Bobby I, Paul S, and Charlie M who never really looked threatened and played the ball out of defence very well.

Final Score Clockhouse 3 - 1 St Peters

Player of the Match -  Paul S
