Weekly reminders for week beginning 12th September 2016

It was absolutely lovely to welcome all the children from Year 1 through to Year 6 back to school last week as well as welcoming new staff and children along with their families. We were all pleased to see everyone and the children seemed to settle quickly, we are all looking forward to an action packed and exciting year ahead.

We hope that you like the new addition to Home / School Learning Diaries, which we hope will further help you to support your child at home. Please ensure that the children bring these to school with them everyday and that you sign them and add any comments. Three times signed means a reading star!

Last week, some children  did not have all the equipment they require - particularly full P.E. kits, water bottles, etc. Please ensure P.E. kits are in school and that earrings are removed. Please can we also remind you of the importance of full school uniform and that this, along with coats are clearly named.

Reception
Welcome to our Reception children who all start on Monday, either in the morning or the afternoon. If your child is starting in the afternoon, please enter Reception through the Nursery playground.

Year 1 - 6
As you will have seen from the letter that went out last week, this weeks sees Roald Dahl week! The staff have been planning lots of fun activities around different books. Each year group will be looking at a different Roald Dahl book and watching a film related to it. Books are as follows:

Year 1 - The Magic Finger
Year 2 - The Enormous Crocodile
Year 3 - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Year 4 - Fantastic Mr Fox
Year 5 - The BFG
Year 6 - Revolting Rhymes

Do not forget that the children can come to school dressed as a character from a Roald Dahl book to celebrate the authors 100th birthday on Tuesday 13th September.

Year 6
The Year 6 children will be launching their new theme Jack's Time Machine (based on Invaders and Settlers) with a Roman Day on Monday - we look forward to seeing some fabulous costumes. Please ensure contributions are sent in.

From Wednesday the children will be sitting Mock SATs tests, this is so that the children can see what the tests are like as well as to get a bench mark for the teachers to inform learning and teaching.

Year 5
Swimming starts for Japan (Year 5) on Monday. The children will be leaving school at 10.30am so please ensure that children come in with all they need for swimming. Please be aware that this year each class will be going for 1 term. As there will be less children in the pool this will improve the quality of learning and teaching.

Year 3 - 6
Please ensure that Walk Home letters are sent back tomorrow. The new list will start as of Monday and if we have not had permission your child will not be allowed to leave the school.

Lost Property Give Away
There will be a Lost Property Give Away in the Key Stage 2 hall on Tuesday - 3.15-3.45.

Meet the Teacher
We will once again be opening the doors of each year group after school one day until 4pm over the next couple of weeks. This provides you with the opportunity to chat to your child's teacher, ask questions and also to see their new classroom. Dates are as follows:

Reception - Tuesday 27th September
Year 1 - Thursday 22nd September
Year 2 - Tuesday 20th September
Year 3 - Tuesday 13th September
Year 4 - Wednesday 21st September
