Coronavirus Update

Dear Parents / Carers

As I am sure you are aware, the government’s guidance on the coronavirus has changed from the ‘contain’ phase to one of delaying the spread of the virus. I am writing to you to hopefully reassure you as well as to update you in terms of what we are doing in light of this, and what we need from all of you, to help make sure our school community keeps as safe and calm as possible.

We would like to reassure you that at Clockhouse Primary School we are taking all of the necessary steps to protect our community and are continuing to follow official guidance from the government and the London Borough of Havering.

What is the current situation?
  • The school remains open – this is the current official guidance we have been given
  • All school functions continue to run as normal until further notice
  • Pupils should attend unless they feel unwell – if your child has any of the following symptoms they should remain at home for 7 days:
o   a new, continuous cough and/or
o   a temperature
  • If your child is unwell and will not be attending school, please report this as you would normally by contacting the school using the normal procedures
  • We will keep you up to date with any changes to the current situation
What we are doing to protect and support children and staff
  • The site staff are taking extra care to clean all surfaces thoroughly, this includes such things as door handles
  • There is hand soap in every classroom and children are asked to wash their hands regularly including when arriving at school and before leaving. We are aware that this is causing some children’s hands to become sore. Therefore if you wish to send your child in with soap, due to the current situation, that is acceptable and appreciated
  • We are checking toilets to ensure that there is a supply of soap
  • Teachers are talking to children about the importance of hygiene. Further work will be done about this is the coming week whilst also being sensitive to the children’s worries and concerns
What we need you to do
  •  Talk to your children about the coronavirus. It is a scary time and we all need to make sure children feel supported. BBC Newsround has regular updates for children which are useful and what we are sharing in school
  •  Come and collect your child straight away, if we ask you to (we will contact you if they become ill with either a temperature or a new, continuous cough). PLEASE ensure that we have up to date contact details for you and that you can pick up the phone should we call
  • Should the school have to close for any period of time, we will ensure that work is provided. A far as is possible this will be online. We will ensure that all required usernames are sent via Class Dojo accounts. Please ensure that you can access Class Dojo, if not please speak to a member of staff who can help with this. If you do not have internet access that your child can use, please also let us know so we can make alternative arrangements.
What happens if the school has to close?
  • We will only close if we are either officially advised to do so or we do not have enough staff to run the school.
In either case, we will:
  • Alert parents through the normal on line communication channels (Class Dojo / Letter) and place a message on the school’s website
Please keep in mind that we are only sending out this information to help the school community prepare. There are currently no plans to close.

Should you want to know more about the symptoms of coronavirus or if you think you or your child may have the symptoms, please use NHS 111 online if at all possible before calling 111. The Department for Education’s coronavirus helpline is 0800 046 8687, if you have any questions about the government’s response to coronavirus in relation to schools.

We all acknowledge that this is a difficult time for everyone and we certainly appreciate that you are worried about the impact this might have on our community. As always we thank you for your continued support and please so not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or wish to discuss this further.

Yours sincerely
Mrs J Savidge
